Trains, Traffic, and Thalis: Our Eventful First Day in Bangalore

Our Bangalore trip started on a slightly chaotic note. Thanks to a 2-hour train delay, we reached the city around 6 PM instead of the planned 4 PM. Frustration levels? High. Hunger levels? Even higher. To make matters worse, we had some interesting (read: annoying) co-passengers on the train. Picture this: a family munching nonstop like they hadn’t eaten in a month, accompanied by hyperactive kids who found endless ways to entertain (or irritate) us.

When we finally reached Bangalore, we decided to skip cabs and autos (hello, exorbitant fares!) and took the metro instead to save both time and money. The metro ride from Yeshwantpur to Lalbagh set us back ₹33 per person, plus an extra ₹30 as a luggage penalty—unexpected, but okay. After a quick snack of a veg puff and roll outside the metro station to quiet our growling stomachs, we were on our way. The metro ride took about 30 minutes, and from Lalbagh station, we hopped into an auto to reach our hotel, which was 15 minutes away and cost ₹60.

Once we checked in, we freshened up, guzzled plenty of water, and started hunting for bike rentals. Why? So we could explore the city on our terms without worrying about cab or auto fares. Lucky for us, we found a rental place nearby, walked over, and got a scooty for ₹600 (24 hours). After a quick fuel stop, we were ready to hit the streets.

First stop:MG Road, where dinner awaited us at Nagarjuna, famous for its thalis. Bangalore traffic, though, tested our patience with endless one-ways and gridlocks, but the thought of food kept us going. When we arrived, there was a wait, but we managed to snag a spot. The thali was everything we hoped for: rice, papad, pickle, three types of vegetables, a curry, rasam, sambhar, curd, and a sweet treat. Delicious! While my appetite only allowed one round of rice, the flavors were truly satisfying.

Post-dinner, we headed back to the hotel, but not without indulging our sweet tooth first. We stopped by Glen’s Bakehouse for donuts and cupcakes—both absolutely divine. With our cravings satisfied and exhaustion kicking in, we called it a night and crashed, ready for the adventures ahead.

A Cozy Night at Si Nonna’s: Pizza, Croquettes, and a Surprisingly Heartwarming Gelato

Recently, I visited Si Nonna’s again. I hadn’t planned on going back, but it just happened. It was a very cold night, and I was craving pizza, so we decided to go there. This time, we ordered pizza number 4, which consisted of fior di latte mozzarella, ricotta cheese, blue cheese, aged parmesan, homemade jalapeño salsa, homemade cherry tomato confit, fresh basil, and EVOO. We also ordered mozzarella and jalapeño croquettes. First, the croquettes arrived. They were okay, but not great. The filling was small, and there wasn’t enough of it, so I wasn’t particularly impressed. Then, our pizza came. We added a little more olive oil and tried to do a cheese pull, but it didn’t work out as expected. However, the taste of the pizza was really good — flavorful and satisfying. Although we were pretty full, there’s always room for dessert, right? I saw gelato and decided to try some. I ordered Sicilian pistachio gelato. It turned out to be delicious — so tasty from the very first bite. I stil...

Food, Films, and a Dash of Chaos: Our Journey to Bangalore Begins!

Today marked the start of our journey to Bangalore, though the actual trip kicks off tomorrow. With our train from Pune Junction scheduled for 8:30 PM, we had a full day to kill. Naturally, we decided to make the most of it by indulging in good food, catching a movie, and simply enjoying some quality time together. We kicked things off with lunch at  Mandala Hotpot ,  where we treated ourselves to some delicious Korean hotpot. The flavors were on point, and the portion size was generous enough to leave us completely stuffed. It took us nearly two hours to finish (totally worth it), and with our bellies happy, we decided to head to the movies. The nearest theatre had shows running mostly for  Pushpa 2 , which we’d already seen, so we opted for Mufasa . But here’s the catch—the show wasn’t until 3  PM, and we had a two-hour wait ahead of us. Since the mall didn’t have any proper seating areas, we wandered downstairs and found a spot at McDonald’s to...

The Day My Nepal Trip Got Cancelled by Just One Message

From Mumbai adventures to a cancelled train, here’s the emotional rollercoaster we never saw coming. Read on to discover how our journey to Nepal ended before it even began. Today is 13th April — the day our long-awaited journey to Nepal was supposed to begin. We had planned to travel by train, packed with excitement and dreams. But everything came crashing down with just one heartbreaking message . The day started with so much hope. I woke up early, completed my last-minute packing, although I was feeling a bit uneasy. Out of nowhere, I started coughing and even vomited. Still, I pulled myself together, prayed like every day, took blessings, and booked a cab to the bus station. We boarded a bus to Mumbai, costing ₹950 for two people. By 5 PM, we reached Dadar, Mumbai. Since our train to Nepal was scheduled at 10 PM, we thought of exploring a few places to kill time. Unfortunately, all the places I had planned to visit remained a dream because the taxi drivers were charging crazy amo...
