June 12, 2026 | Dad's Birthday & A Quiet Day
Today was my dad's birthday.
Unlike many people, Dad has never been a fan of midnight celebrations. So instead of staying up late, we celebrated in the morning, which honestly feels more like him.
The cake was one I had made yesterday and kept in the refrigerator overnight.
It was a ragi cake, and although it turned out pretty good, it definitely didn't look exactly like the one in the YouTube video I followed.
Then again, when does that ever happen?
The texture was different because of the ragi, but it was delicious, and that's what matters. Sometimes homemade things don't need to be perfect to be special.
We cut the cake, celebrated together, and gave Dad his gifts.
The day itself was simple.
I worked, had my meals, and went about my usual routine.
But for some reason, I felt a little strange.
Not sad exactly.
Just a little disappointed that nothing particularly special happened.
Which is funny because we don't usually do anything grand for birthdays anyway.
Still, I think a part of me wanted the day to feel different simply because it was Dad's birthday.
Maybe that's why I felt the way I did.
Or maybe I was just overthinking.
Either way, the day moved on.
In the evening, I finally worked out.
And honestly, it felt great.
There's something satisfying about finishing a workout and knowing you pushed yourself a little. I felt lighter, more energetic, and quite proud of myself for getting it done.
Unfortunately, that feeling lasted only until Mom came home with bread patties.
Suddenly all those calories I had proudly burned felt like they had returned for revenge.
Not that I'm complaining.
Because if there's one thing stronger than fitness motivation, it's the smell of fresh bread patties.
After that, I wasn't really hungry for dinner, so I skipped it altogether.
The day ended earlier than usual.
By around 9:30 p.m., I was already in bed, feeling tired and ready to sleep.
And as I lay there, I found myself thinking the same thing I've been thinking for days now.
Please let it rain soon.
The heat is still here.
The mosquitoes are still here.
And I think everyone is ready for the monsoon to finally arrive.
Until tomorrow. 🌙
